Helium-4 and helium-3 at ultra-low temperatures are systems, which have quantum effects
that manifest themselves on a macroscopic scale, and thus, are called quantum solids
and quantum fluids. In addition to properties like being free from impurities and being simple,
they form Bose/Fermi systems that strongly interact with each other.
These properties render themselves as ideal systems in the study of quantum many-body correlation physics.
Our laboratory is conducting basic research on condensed matter physics using quantum effects unique to low temperatures such as superfluidity,
abnormal crystal growth of quantum solids, and roughening transition, and so on.
Our goals are to conduct world-class research on challenging topics, while providing outstanding instruction to students interested in basic research in condensed matter physics.
